Once again I got up for an 08:30, and returned with И for breakfast with A. Then we went back for two plenaries by very clever people I know that were far from my area and hard to follow.

After lunch, the conference trip was to Furnas, a village in the hills that has a nearby caldera lake - the largest of the three on this island. In the village itself there is a fine botanical garden (see extra) and a pool supplied by a hot spring. I explored the gardens while A bathed. Afterwards, the coach took us up the hill to this viewpoint over Lagoa Das Furnas, and then back to Ponta Delgada via the north of the island.
