Shanty Festival
This weekend has Oban holding the annual International Shanty Festival, with a number of bands performing in the town, especially around the harbour.
The day began quite dull, but warm and muggy, and as usual we drove down to the pier for fresh fish, then a quick visit to the library. I called in at the railway station to collect my tickets - I’m going down to London next Friday - then mid-morning saw us sitting outside trying to find a breeze! Around noon the sound of singing began as the Shanty Festival got under way. It sounded very close and I assumed it was coming from McCaig’s Tower. I grabbed the camera and walked up there, but there was nothing to be seen. I eventually walked down to the town and found an English band called the Black Deep performing in Argyll Square - my Blip today.
Up at Rockfield another band, local this time and named The Disclaimers, was performing outside the Centre - my extra today.
After lunch I chopped up all the laurel prunings from the hedge hacking the other day and took two loads up to the dump, aka Moleigh Recycling Centre. Came back to sit out in the sunshine, but it was too hot and I came in! Can’t win!
