Groyne

The days are getting longer (incrementally).  Yesterday was the shortest day of the year.  

A number of rock groynes like this one were built along the Hokitika beach years ago to try and hold the sea back from eating away at the coast.  The rocks have moved a lot, but I do believe the have helped slow down the erosion.
