Day oot

Up early, with an unexpected HO, to make the packed breakfast and lunch for a day trip to Edinburgh with Rachel.

First stop was to see Sarah Kenchington's Windpipes. It was a total joy and we had great fun playing tunes.

From there to the Fruitmarket for the Gabriel Orozco which was interesting but not what I was expecting.

A walk through the gardens to the National Galleries to see the Peter Doig show. Wow. When you walked from Room 2 to 3 and glimpsed more in the surrounding 4 rooms, it really was astounding. We spent a long time picking our favourites.

We grabbed a cab to the botanics to eat our picnic (in the cold and intermittent rain) before seeing the Franz West show where the highlight was headbutting a mohair ball...

Next stop was tea and cake to refuel before seeing the Rachel Maclean show at Printmakers. This is a great show. The video piece is brilliant. Very clever and very funny.

The penultimate stop was the Ingleby Gallery before going up Calton Hill to the temporary Collective Gallery. Ashamed to say that's the first time I've ever been up the hill, the views are stunning.

During our coffee break we booked tickets to see Smashed a hugely entertaining, beautiful, chaotic and clever piece of... juggling. Yes, really. It was ace. As was the whole day.
