Sólheimar in Grímsnes
Today we visited Sólheimar Eco Village, a beautiful and inspiring place where 95 years ago a woman named Sesselja Hreindís Sigmundsdóttir started working on her vision and dream to come true. She was one of Iceland's first environmentalists and wanted to create a place where people with disabilities could live and become active participants in the community. Organic farming, artistic creation and cultural activities are at the forefront of this small village.
Here's a walk-through-video of Sólheimar.
One of the extra photos shows a statue of Reynir Pétur Ingvarsson who lives in Sólheimar and became famous in 1985 when he walked the whole 1.417 kilometres ringroad around Iceland.
My brother Björn & his family came to dinner in the evening, after they'd been to a birthday party in Vestmannaeyjar.
