Hiding/not hiding
We took the girls out for the afternoon to give their currently-singlehanded Dad a break. The walk along the course of the old railway line, being flat and smooth, is perfect for bikes propelled by small legs, and in addition passes through the Teifi marshes nature reserve which is well supplied with hides. We resisted requests to stop at all of them but this one was handy for a snack while birdwatching.
Six year old knowledgably pointed out "the deadliest plant in Wales" (hemlock water dropwort, growing everywhere) and she also spotted a handsome shieldbug; I noticed a small tortoiseshell butterfly posing colourfully among the meadowsweet and wild roses (extras).
(I also discovered two galls, one on alder and one on vetch, which might only be of interest to other cecidologists.)
