Sydney Dental Hospital

Sydney Dental Hospital was founded in 1905. It's been housed in the building in my photo since1940 when it was completed. Designed by Stephenson and Turner, it is an example of the Streamline Moderne style. Note the glass tower enclosing a staircase. The extra shows it from the other side.

The Sydney Dental Hospital provides dental treatments as a public health service for eligible clients. When I was an impoverished uni student I went there to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed. The operation was performed by dentistry students and it was awful. I had a starched white cloth with a hole for my mouth over my face. I had to ask for more anaesthetic. I took a long time to recover.

This building reminds me of the Flatiron building in New York which I tried to photograph on my visit there last November. I couldn't give it the look that Alfred Stieglitz achieved.

Thanks for hosting Jen.
