The weather here always catches me out. We had a lovely sunny day yesterday but I wakened to a grey day this morning. Nowhere, however did it say it was about to rain but nevertheless the mist came down and it did rain. The thought of another soaking on the way to the slip was a bit depressing, but along came the offer of a lift from SelkiePenny and that was very gratefully received. In the event the rain disappeared and the weather has behaved as the forecasters said it would.

Having missed so much of the interesting talk by Jen Stout in Kirkwall on Monday night, I went through to Kirkwall this morning to buy her book ‘Night Train to Odesa’.  There were 2cruise ships in Kirkwall  this morning with buses running constantly between the Neolithic sites , the Italian Chapel and round the Island. Stromness was heaving with stravaiging tourists from several cruise ship  buses parked at the pier.

While I was in Kirkwall I popped in to see Alice,  the daughter of my late friend Meg who I used to visit when I was up in Orkney. It was lovely that Alice’s sister was  visiting this morning too and we could sit in the garden and chat in Kirkwall sunshine.

My Glasgow family are about to go off on holiday to Slovenia but not before Ewan attended his leavers  prom. He left with the Trophy for Achievement and this hilarious notice.
