I was heading out in the truck for a dog walk and stopped to close a gate behind me and this dog turned up looking panicked. I went back to the truck to grab a lead and he tried to get in. Once got a lead on him I got him in the truck. After phoning husband who was nearby. He took a quick picture of him and put it on local community fb. I took him home to wait to see if we could track down his owners. I gave him a bowl of water and was sitting with him and noticed he was afraid of the thunder that was nearby. So I knew he had run off because of that so I definitely wasn't letting him out. Lose dogs running around and exploring is more a thing here so sometimes you tell them to go home but I knew this wasn't one of the usual and that he was clearly in distress. We suspected we may know whose dog it was so husband was trying to make contact when the son commented on the fb post. Within a short period of time he came to pick him up and take him home. He said he never runs off but has done it once before with thunder. Anyway he was quickly taken home. And that was our excitement for the day. I took our dogs out for their walk after he had been picked up. Later we had a really big rain hail storm from a fading thunderstorm cloud but no actual thunder by the time it got to us.
