Florence Mine.

Today two camera club/U3A members and myself visited Florence Mine, near Egremont.  The club had visited earlier in the month but the three of us were doing something else.  I had seen the photos that the members had taken and there were some crackers.  Some were very creative.  One thing you do get are puddles and if caught right, a good reflection.  This is a reflection of the winding gear 'in orange.'
This mine no longer produces haematite ore (a rich iron ore) used in the production of steel at the nearby steelworks at Workington: steel that made railway lines which, in their day, were sent around the world.
Everywhere you look there is plenty haematite colour, but no iron ore.  However, Florence mine is an arts centre.  One thing they do do is make paint using this colour.
More importantly we had tea and cake plus a very good chat with the person in charge.
