Pretty healthy

It's been a domestic goddess type of day today. First I made a clafoutis with the apricots I bought at the market yesterday. There were loads left over, so I made the rest of them into apricot compote. I also took advantage of the oven being on to roast some hazelnuts.

Having then taken the overflowing recyclable rubbish to the recycling bins, I made salad for lunch. I'd noticed very tempting salad recipes in the Observer a couple of weeks ago, so I'd made sure to gather the ingredients for a labneh, nectarine and cucumber salad. Pretty, healthy, and delicious. I cheated and bought the labneh in Grand Frais yesterday. Lovely juicy nectarines and a delicious dukkah of roasted hazelnuts, toasted sesame seeds and crushed fennel seeds. Fresh mint from the tub outside. If I'd thought of it I'd have sprinkled over the pomegranate seeds I bought in GF too. Clafoutis and cream for afters.

While I was dumping the recycling I checked out the brevas on the fig trees near the swimming pool. They were ripe! So after lunch I went back armed with a bag and secateurs and easily filled it, leaving plenty on the trees for others. They were so squishy they had to be cooked immediately, so having walked down to the cave coopérative to buy a bottle of muscat, the oven was on again to roast them with muscat and vanilla.

Once that was done, two personable young chaps, both called Florian, turned up to talk to us about solar panels. We are wholly ignorant, so we need advice on what, how, and why. They used to work for giant construction company Bouygues, but decided to set up on their own. I loved the name of their company ... E2F (works in French if not in English).

And finally we went out for a short walk in the relative cool of the evening, before a refreshing jug of tinto de verano, the taste of summer, plus a few nibbles.
