WWII, Dieppe Raid keepsake

Oh, the stories this bit of brass could tell...

A colleague of mine has this room key from the Hotel de Normandie. His father was a Canadian soldier involved in the Dieppe Raid on this day in 1942 - a battle much remembered by Canadians and the people of France principally because of the 3,367 dead, wounded or captured Canadians (68% of our contingent). He survived the campaign, billeted or visited the hotel, and 'forgot' to return the key to Room 3. Now passed on, my colleague keeps the WWII-era fob in memory of his father and his comrades in arms.

I did a search for the Hotel de Normandie in Dieppe. Either it no longer exists or exists under another name. Given that there was still some three years to go in the war, it probably no longer exists. If anybody out there knows, do leave a comment.
