Fledgling Starling ( Sturnus vulgaris )

Yesterday a young Squirrel today a young Starling.  Until this year Starlings have been a bird we had in the garden two or maybe three times a year. Then we got the nest that obviously hatched a good number of young.  The adults were still to proud to visit our food bank feeding station.  This morning a couple of the youngster decided to give it a try.

I chose the starling shot for a number of reasons.  The first is the interest of seeing the adult plumage beginning to show.  The adult plumage has the white spots on dark iridescent feathers.  Somebody is thinking I only see starlings looking like that in summer.  True, the familiar dark coloured starling has lost the white spots, this is owing to feather wear, the white spots get worn away.
