Lilies in the pond
A hot day at Stowe as we tried to uncover the remains of a pyramid built some 299 years ago by one of the architects involved in the development of the Stowe Estate. Trees have overgrown the site of the collapsed pyramid but the stones which were the foundation are still now visible. The work was in response to a request from the Head Teacher at Stowe school.
An interesting morning.
Research shows "CONSTRUCTION OF A PYRAMID BEGAN 1726, DESIGNED BY VANBURGH, BUT HAD GONE BY C.1786. VISIBLE ON RIGAUD'S ENGRAVINGS. VERY STEEP SIDED WITH A ROOM WITHIN. SMALL EXCAVATION IN 1991-2 CONFIRMED SITING AT NGR & FOUND REMAINS OF BASE & STEPS & ENTRANCE CORRIDOR"
