Magnolia Grandiflora
And, according to RHS Wisley: "A large, rounded evergreen tree about about 12m tall or more with glossy dark green, leathery, oblong-elliptic leaves, often rusty-brown beneath, and highly fragrant, cup-shaped, cream flowers to 25cm across in late summer and autumn" All correct except that mine is very much flowering now rather than "late summer". No worries, it is magnificent.
What have I done today? I'm struggling to remember. I have emptied the car, filled it up with old bits of pallet and been to the tip. A nice young chap helped transfer said wood to the appropriate bit. A small job done. Hurray. If I had taken my credit card (which I didn't) I would have called in at Screwfix to get a tube of Gorilla glue (tomorrow). Home for a short Teams meeting. And then paperwork for my little paid job - why do these things always take so much longer than they should? Is this an age thing?
This evening I had dinner with my near neighbour Carol - poussin, Jersey Royal potatoes and spinach - delicious.
