Sorting

Shuffling through, and sorting by country, a box of old postcards I bought at auction. A little over £12, including the commission, and worth every penny for the social history within them.

Interesting ones will be popped on an Instagram I've set up for old photos, cards and found photos (from old rolls of films left in cameras I buy), with the 'really' interesting ones then listed for sale to fund the fun.

Spoiler alert, I listed the three Loch Ness Monster cards in the Extra as one lot on eBay later in the day, and as I'm back blipping this from almost a week later I can reveal I accepted an offer, short of the auction being finished, for £21 for the three. Self-funding fun.

Some of the cards have some excellent messages on the back (once you can decipher the handwriting), while others were clearly bought to take home in lieu of taking photos. I find it intriguing to think that people 100 years ago (there are a few from the 20s and before in the box, including one with a lovely shady message about someone being too heavy for ice to go curling from 1904) wouldn't have had any concept of the fact their card and message would not only still be circulating to this day, but could be shared on social media around the world.
