Hummingbird Hawk Moth
Today's the day . . . . . . . . . for something special
Trusting that the weather would improve, we all set off this morning after a leisurely breakfast, for Logan Botanic Garden on the Rhinns of Galloway at the south-western tip of Scotland.
No matter what time of the year it is, there is always something spectacular to see there - but specially so right now in the full flush of summer. We would go just to see the echiums in flower (see extra) with their vivid blue flowers in a towering stack. Today though, there was something extra-special to see because among the many pollinating insects that were drinking their fill - there were several Hummingbird Hawk Moths to be seen.
I wish I could say that the above was one of the pictures that I took - but I have to confess that it's one of Will's. And the one in extras was taken by Janine. I think I was just too excited to be seeing two such iconic specimens, to make a good job of taking a picture.
A very special day . . . . . . . . !
