Cheylesmore Manor, Coventry

Had a lovely afternoon back in my home city of Coventry and had to visit the Manor which houses the Register Office.

Charlesmore Manor - Dating from the 13th Century, much altered and rebuilt in the 14th, 15th & 16th centuries. The remains of the Manor and Gatehouse were extensively restored 1965-1966.

Built for the Earls of Chester it passed to Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II and alter in 1338 to her grandson, Edward the Black Prince, both of whom were instrumental in Coventry's early municipal history.
