Liechtenstein

I fulfilled a small ambition of mine today - to visit the small, doubly landlocked principality of Liechtenstein. This was achieved by embarking on a 2 hour train journey from Bern via Zurich Hauptbahnhof to the little Swiss town of Sargans, before taking a bus across the border. No border guards here, just some inconspicuous flags as you cross the River Rhine, which marks the natural boundary of the two countries.

This blip is of the Landtag (or Parliament) of Liechtenstein in the capital Vaduz. I guess this blip is of the beating, political heart of the country.

Vaduz itself is a charming little town, with a preponderance of banks (and smartly suited bankers). I did read with fascination that, despite its reputation as a financial centre, Liechtenstein is a major producer of ceramics, sausage skins and false teeth!!

I'm pleased to have visited this charming Principality.
