Best Foot Forward

We were up pretty early to get to the hospital. I always relax when I get to the ward because I’m where I am supposed to be at the right time. Today’s lovely nurses and health care assistants were Hannah, Veji and Saji, alongside Neha the surgeon and Duncan the anaesthetist.

I was seen early and out by noon - the fastest yet! That first cup of tea afterwards was delicious, as were the ginger nut biscuits. I was feeling so well that I convinced Tim to come with me, in the crazy heat, to Trafalgar Square, where the. Canadian High Commission was hosting an early Canada Day party. There wasn’t a huge turnout (did I mention how hot it was?) but the poutine* and the atmosphere were great. I’ve posted a lot of extras for my own amusement).

Then we returned and watched a fair amount of Glastonbury coverage with our feet up. The best by far were Pulp, Ezra Collective and Raye.

Invoking the spirit of Folkie, I tried to find a link to Pulp playing Common People at Glastonbury but couldn’t find a good clip. I’m incredibly grateful to the not so common kindness shown by those hardy souls who work in the NHS. I’m grateful for people who organise a Canada Day event for folks like me, far from home (and who let me be an Oilers player for a laugh). I’m grateful for music, which Raye repeatedly called medicine. Most of all I’m grateful to friends like you, wishing me well. I don’t have words for how grateful I am for Tim.

So, a day that started on a serious note also contained much music, love and laughter.

*Poutine may not be considered medicinal, but I’m certain a Canadian GP would say it was medicinal in small doses. My last poutine was about three years ago!
