Perhaps God will guide me a few inches to the left
The Houses of Parliament, as you probably recognised. I didn't go here, today, though, but, rather,* just across the road to Portcullis House to meet my new MP, Lizzi Collinge, for the first time.
It was a bit of school business, and she kindly gave me forty minutes of her time to discuss it. I liked her, actually: a good egg, I think.
And after that I took the Jubilee Line to Stratford to meet Milly for lunch.
On the tube, there was a poem called 'Pane' by Anna Gilmore Heezen, which I rather liked:
I watched it butt its head against the glass,
watched it beat against the window's smooth glass chest,
wring its hands in bewilderment, try again, fall
to the sill, stunned, get up and do it again.
Unable to watch its stubborn struggle anymore, I got a plastic cup,
gently caught the little black firework before it fizzed itself out,
watched it sink up into the sky like a coin in a public fountain.
Perhaps God will guide me a few inches to the left too, I thought.
When it was gone, I looked up through the branches and glimpsed blue.
Milly and I had a wonderful lunch, sat outside at a restaurant called Bobo And Wild (would recommend). I love seeing how happy she is in her new job, and living in this part of London.
And in the evening, Mum, Wol, and I went up to Pizza Express, which was lovely. It's been a nice few days down here.
