Juvenile Blackbird ( Turdus merula )
Red Squirrels are great time wasters! This morning he was back on the bird feeder munching peanuts, he stayed there for nearly half an hour with a break of less than a minute when he abandoned his perch owing to incoming heavy air traffic i.e. a woodpigeon. While I was sitting watching him I noticed one of the juvenile Blackbirds that my friendly male is rearing in the apple tree. So it was looking cute and asking to be blipped.
Later the red appeared on the squirrel feeder, but I don't think that as yet it has worked out how to get in for the food. Coming back to the woodpigeon it needs to have a word with its dad about how to deal with them. Once a pigeon and the squirrel were on the bird table together. Easily solved he charged across the table put both front feet against its chest and pushed. Problem solved.
The extra is a shot of today's visit for anybody who needs their red squirrel fix.
