Doing Things God's Way.......

We came together at FBC this morning to join our hearts and voices in praise and worship God Who gives us life and breath and blesses us in so many ways.  We traveled under bright blue skies patched with the fluffy white clouds that wave cheerily as they pass us by, but have no rain in them. God blessed us with some rain last week and we prayed for more this week as we began our service united in a congregational song.  Pastor Wes provided the welcome and opening prayer, followed by a joyful arrangement (done by one of our own choir members) of the hymn, "Praise The Lord,Ye Heavens Adore Him", presented by the choir, orchestra and all our talented accompanists. The congregation joined in singing a few more songs, before Pastor Wes turned our attention to the passage he had mentioned earlier as being a little different because it is describing a one-time event in the life of the church as it was beginning, not prescribing a practice that was to be done on a regular basis.  He started his sermon with a story from the experience of one of his friends and mentors about the importance of knowing the who, what, why and how of dealing with a situation.  Then he began to show us how that applied to today's Bible passage in which the eleven disciples returned to Jerusalem.  As Jesus had commanded, they gathered with other believers, including some women, Mary, the mother of Jesus and His earthly half-brothers, and they prayed in one accord for the next right thing to do.  Eventually, Peter told them that they should  replace Judas Iscariot, who had vacated his place among the twelve by his own voluntary actions and come to a bad end. They prayed that God would make His choice to fill that empty place clear to them, which He did, and Matthias.  Pastor Wes provides a much more interesting and detailed telling of the story which you can find in the Live-stream and I was left with this thought.  There are four ways to deal with every situation you may encounter: the wrong way, an okay way, the mostly right way and God's way, which is always the best way----all you have to do is ask Him....
