Last Day
This is Rhianna Giddens with Dirk Powell.
She is my Find of the Festival. She sang and played mainly banjo but what a voice, beautiful and powerful. Dirk comes from Louisiana and played some Cajun music with a little accordion and accompanied on the guitar. An unexpectedly wonderful hour and got right to the front.
The day was hot and very sunny and very dusty. After a while it is really tiring. I had decided to do more exploring today and wandered all over the camp. The festival publishes it's own newspaper and they tell me I am in the 27th largest urban area in England, my feet are now aware of this.
The craft fields had working blacksmiths , there were wood carvers, rug making, jewellery workshops, spoon carving and a fascinating stall doing calligraphy. I watched as a lady carefully "built" the letter Y on a golden glass background. Built is the only word I could use to describe what she was doing, so much care and concentration
I also found the Permaculture area and chatted to a couple of people who maintain it throughout the year. Interesting ideas, I have never heard of an intensive mixed bed before, visually much more interesting than the normal straight lines.
Heard a talk by Prof. Alice Roberts on very diverse subjects, she has a lovely speaking voice .
As to music, apart the Rhianna Giddens, I watched Rod Stewart, very polished very Las Vagas, not the Rod I remembered. Other than that just picked up snatches as I walked past some of the stages.
Now very tired and real dirty with all the dust Early shower tomorrow morning and then packing and returning reality.
