Riding the hot summer air

I heard a shout out from down the corridor, as Helena said that a hot air balloon was flying over the valley. I got up from my desk and popped my head out of the window as luckily I had my camera close at hand.

In former years we would regularly see balloons but they have been quite rare in the last few years. The red balloon was quite small with only two people on board. It floated on the wind from Minchinhampton Common  heading north across the Golden Valley. I hoped that I’d see the flames of the burner used to provide lift, but today’s warm weather seemed to have made that unnecessary, the heat of the sun’s rays warming the gases within the red balloon. Descending might be a problem!
