OLD POST OFFICE GATESHEAD
It was 4 weeks ago today that I had cataract surgery on my right eye. Next step was to go back to the opticians for a check up and a referral back to the Eye Clinic to get the left eye done.
So this afternoon I got the bus to Gateshead for my appointment at Specsavers. After some tests it seems that the vision in my right eye is not as good as it should be after the surgery. So I have to go back to the Eye Clinic about that. I just have to wait to hear from them with an appointment. Meanwhile I have to carry on with the eye drops. Not what I wanted to hear but never mind. We will see what they say at the Eye Clinic when I go.
After my appointment I went down West Street to get my blip shot. I read a bit of info online recently about the old Post Office building so I went to check it out. The building dates from 1897. It stands on the site of the house where wood engraver and natural history author Thomas Bewick lived and died ( in 1828 ). The Post Office closed in 2014 and has stood empty since then.
The interesting thing about the building is that it has a foot stirrup set into the wall and grab handles further up. Apparently they was used by the local bobby to look through the window on his night round to check all was well inside the bank. Ive been inside the building many times when it was a Post Office and have passed it many times since it closed down but had never noticed the stirrup and grab handles.
I did some shopping in Tesco before coming home.
The weather has been very warm and humid today. Ive had the patio door open all evening but the house still feels too hot and stuffy.
