Pictorial blethers

The lucky ones?

It's been a while since I produced one of my death-defying morning hing out of the window photos here, but today wasn't really very inspirational in terms of visual joy and I do love this passing ship against a strip of bright water at the Tail o' the Bank, giving a promise of brighter weather to the east of us - in fact, the possibility of a photo was what got me out of my bed today. There was, however, no sunshine at all today - just varying quantities of cloud - and now it's been raining and the streets are all wet. The wind is annoying too - but to hear the sombre tones of various public servants talking about amber warnings of heat to the south and the dangers to the over-65s, I should maybe be grateful.

I went to Pilates first thing, another truly strenuous class (to keep me going, apparently, as I shall miss one next week. The groans were audible at certain points in the hour, and it wasn't all me. At least my balance was better than it's been. Then home for a badly-needed coffee and the Italian that I started on late enough to do myself out of some double points this evening. I really mustn't be so addicted - I reached the #2 slot in the Diamond League last week and feel I should settle for having proved I could do it ...

Mid-afternoon we went out, reckoning that the weather wasn't going to get any better, and headed down to the high road above Innellan - I'd forgotten quite what a climb that first hill is once we'd left the car! We were both knackered, and were happy to turn back with the road turned to a rutted earthy track.

Dinner was cauliflower cheese and garlicky sausages - all of which is now weighing unpleasantly within. (It was good though). I heard from my family in France for the summer (it's hot) and from my not-away-yet son looking to arrange a trip together on Waverley - I hope this comes off. I watched the final episode of Shardlake and thought, not for the first time, how wretchedly uncomfortable  life was for even the wealthiest and most pampered members of society back then.

I'll just take my candle off to bed now ...
