Light at the End of the Tunnel

Just an underpass, really, where the Brush Creek trail goes underneath Highway 12. I find it a bit disconcerting as the cement piers, though numerous, don't really seem thick enough to support the cars thundering overhead. The creek is on the left, hence the imposing handrail. It's not exactly scenic under there but I kind of liked the strong lines and the contrast in light.

Caroline came today to clean the house because her usual day, Friday, is a holiday. She does a wonderful job of cleaning the house, but the woman can talk the hind leg off a donkey. We had to flee to Brush Creek for a bit of quiet.

On Friday's holiday , the 4th of July, it seems like it would be quite suitable to demand independence from the wannabe king on Independence Day. With creative accounting and midnight weekend votes the BIg Ugly BIll is moving toward passage, funneling money from the poor into the pockets of the rich who have shamelessly lined Trump's pockets. A more hypocritical, greedy group I've never seen before this lot. Jeff Bezos' $45 million wedding in Venice is reminiscent of the Robber Barons of the late 19th century. It hasn't made him many friends in Venice, or anywhere else, I suspect, but we're too hooked on Amazon to boycott it . I've managed to avoid ordering anything from Amazon but I'm afraid there is just no alternative to the Kindle...

At least the plan to sell millions of acres of public lands to private developers has been withdrawn due to the pushback of the governors of Western states  and from environmentalists and hunters. And in an effort to slow down the rush to passage, the Democrats have demanded that the bill, all 900+ pages of it, be read on the Senate floor. It took 16 hours. I pity the poor clerk who had to do it. There isn't a lot the Democrats can do without a majority, but they seem to be waking up a little bit and trying to make things more difficult.

The weather is cooler on this last day of June, and the usual ocean breeze is back which will blow away the yellow jackets and mosquitoes.
