Forest at Colliery Dam Municipal Park

A busy day around the house was followed by a walk around the dam.  Only 5 minutes from home and close to busy roads, when you leave the parking lot you step onto a trail through old growth forest.   Built in 1910 - 1911, the water was used for coal washing and for use in the mines, then later carried to the homes in the area.  The trail is a figure 8 around the 2 small lakes produced by the dam, a 2.8 km. loop.   The lakes are stocked with fish and anglers and swimmers enjoy the water while walkers frequent the trails.
