The National Windrush Monument

Our train to Surrey from central London leaves from Waterloo which is where I saw The National Windrush Monument which is a tribute to the Windrush generation who arrived in Britain from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1971.  The statue was unveiled in June 2022 and recognises their contributions to British society and serves as a place of reflection and education.

We had a lovely day in Surrey visiting C&L (our son and daughter-in-law) and playing with their dog Pepsi.  We had planned to visit some nearby gardens but it was just too hot.  We ended up sitting in in their cool living room or shady parts of the garden.  We had a really lovely day.  We heard about their recent trip to Zermatt and their plans for having work done in the garden.  So good to see them.  They plan to come and visit us later in the summer.

This photo is from the 29th.  We came home yesterday (30th).  The journey home was difficult as there was some big problems with the trains.  Our train was cancelled and we had to get on a different train and get off at York and had quite a long wait for a train to Newcastle.  The train was packed and many people were standing.  Luckily Mr YB managed to reserve us some seats on his phone but I felt sorry for many of the passengers.   Train stations are usually really cold places but not yesterday - both Kings Cross and York were stifling hot.

Anyway, we are home now after a wonderful weekend and wishing that we had the air conditioning that we had in our London hotel.  Our bedroom was stifling hot last night, probably as the house had been locked up for a few days.
