Nicky and her Nikon

As expected the journey into London yesterday evening was so hot and sweaty. Luckily the event was held outside in the central courtyard of the V&A, so that was hot but bearable - there were about 300 people there but there was enough drinks and substantial canapes (little bowls of mushroom risotto etc). Gavin's retirement was in the financial press yesterday so he had a lot of people coming up to him asking him about it and wondering where he was moving to, thinking he was taking on another job - his health issues are not widely known amongst clients and other colleagues in the industry.

The exhibition was below ground level in a very cool air conditioned room, which was a relief to get out of the heat. My mind was boggling at the value of the items on display, surely such an attraction for some criminal mastermind to steal some of those highly valuable pieces! There obviously was security in place but it was not at all apparent. The craftmanship of the jewellery was exquisite but there were some pieces that were so over the top, like the necklace of the Maharaja of Patiala and many royal tiaras I enjoyed the little clocks best of all.

Today has been unbearably hot, 33C and not a breath of wind. Xena and I  struggled on the dog walk and then I have sat at home for the rest of the day. Tomorrow it is forecast to be cooler with a bit of rain. It is not even that hot by some country's standards but we are just not used to it here.

I had the  wrong lens with me, I thought I had my macro lens on my camera but it was ny telephoto lens instead - I did manage to get some butterfly shots but they never sit still. I also did my Z8 camera firmware update today.
