Tuesday: Lily Appears

The mysterious lily that recently appeared in the garden has flowered and is looking glorious.

The weather, while still warm, wasn’t as oppressive as yesterday. I had one of those mornings where I felt like I lost hours of my life in a frustrating pursuit, namely putting together a desk chair with the worst instructions I’ve ever seen.  Anyway, it’s done now but it was a very painful experience.

Behind the lily there is a blue dish.  We bought it recently and put bread in it for the birds.  K, always one to keep an eye on my clumsy tendencies, needs to keep reminding me to keep the pieces small.  ‘They’re not pterodactyls, Booky!’.

So, half way through the year, eh?!  I’ve read some good stuff this year so, at the halfway point, here are my favourites of 2025:

‘The Mayor Of MacDougal Street’, Dave van Ronk
‘Demon Copperhead’, Barbara Kingsolver
‘Wave’, Sonali Deraniyagala

And, although I’m only half way through, I’m certain of this one:

‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
