Work view
I spent the morning in G's garden. I always urge her to give me the shit jobs, rather than do them herself: she pays me after all. This week she took me at my word and I spent almost two hours on my hands and knees in the border, pulling out small pea plants.
She mulches all her beds with thick layers of pea straw, which is incredibly effective at keeping weeds down and maintaining the moisture and warmth of the soil.
Unfortunately the last delivery of straw was very poorly cleaned of peas, and this coupled with our wetter than usual autumn /winter has resulted in perfect conditions for the germination and growth of an enormous - and very much unwanted - crop of peas. They are frost resistant of course, so while everything else is dying down, they are flourishing.
Mima to the rescue! It will be the work of weeks to get rid of them all. And it is tedious in the extreme. However, when I look up and see this view, I can't be anything but happy about my workplace.
As you can see it was another day out of the box. It wasn't hot (9C) but in the sun the gardening conditions were comfortable.
