Fun for kids
As a former librarian I love seeing libraries organising reach-out opportunities for kids to have lots of extra fun.
This one in Sweden involved local internationally published authors Anders Sparring and Per Gustavsson reading and drawing their way through one of their recent publications to the huge delight of crowds of local children (see extra).
At the conclusion of the show when huge cartons were wheeled into the outdoor venue, and everyone was told they were being given a free copy of the book they'd just been introduced to, the clapping and cheering was very loud !
I was also a lucky recipient and got to speak to the authors. What a treat :)
They were not long back from the Auckland Readers' and Writers' Festival so we talked at length about their impressions of New Zealand.
They're published at home by Gecko Press so I can't wait to get back and read the book in English and relive the fun I had on the day. And the Swedish version, signed by the authors, will sit proudly in my book case !
