South Stack #2
Whilst most of the UK has been having/enjoying/enduring the hottest day so far this year, we, in the North Western part of Anglesey have been enveloped in mist, sea fog , light rain and temps of 12 to 15degrees for most of the day. We, and our fellow campers, D&K, went into Holyhead to do a bit of food shopping and a recce round the coast. Back to the campsite for a late lunch and then the mist lifted, the rain stopped and the sun gave a weak appearance so time for a walk down to the South Stack Lighthouse. It was a bit late in the day so the lighthouse tour had finished and the RSPB Visitor Centre closed. However we ventured down many steps halway to the lighthouse to see the other side of the cliffs covered in nesting sea birds mostly Guillemots, some Razorbills and Kittiwakes* Some other walkers had seen Puffins from the Ellen's lookout point which we'll explore later this week, weather permitting? As we walked back we saw a couple of Choughs with their red beaks and legs having a bit of an argument.
Karen was on dinner duty tonight and cooked a delicious chicken, different varieties of mushrooms, onions and herbs dish, very tasty, with homegrown veg and followed by rhubarb and ginger with a delicious oat ant nut crumble topping. It turned into a beautiful evening so we sat outside the vans again, but with a few layers on, watched the sun shimmering on the water and finally disappearing into an explosion of pink as it dropped into the sea.
Finally, to end a super Day 1 we watched the Djokovic v Muller tennis match. An exciting match which went on till late. We were glad to see Muller giving Djokovic a good run for his money.
Extras: Seabirds, Kittiwake, the Choughs and old man of the Stack
