The Unbidden
"Nearly all the best things that came to me in life have been unexpected, unplanned by me." — Carl Sandburg Sandburg was called the "People's Poet" and my favorite poem of his is Fog, which I had to memorize in elementary school. (Remember the time when children had to memorize things?)
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
There are two kinds of daylilies in my dooryard garden that are "volunteers". These were the first to show up many years ago. Some unkind people call them "Ditch Lilies" because you often see them growing along the side of the road. I think, any flower who volunteers to grow in my garden is most welcome. The next volunteers will be blooming soon and have a special meaning for me. Our hot weather continues but both John and Bob will be here today to do their thing.
