Between fen and mountains

Pla de Barrès

The only way we could walk today was to drive up on to the Cerdagne Plateau which at nearly 2,000 metres would mean a good drop in the temperature. We set off early in the relative cool of the morning and the maximum temperature by lunchtime was no more than 25 degrees. Back in the valley it was 10 degrees higher. For a change, the walk was nearly flat and only nine kilometres long.. The scenery was pastoral and bucolic and it was a good opportunity to catch up with friends, more of a social walk than a hike.
