4 Stops, Big Waves, and Even Bigger Lunch
Busy day for a travel day – managed to tick off four different spots, which is frankly impressive given we didn’t get going that early.
First stop: Nazaré’s north beach, home of the famous monster waves. They were a good 10ft at least. Needless to say, I didn’t even think about getting in.
Next up was a quick coffee break at Paredes da Vitória – a lovely little town, bit of a hidden gem, really. We didn’t linger long, but it was the perfect pause en route to our lunch stop.
A fully vegan place again with a “menu of the day” that turned out to be an absolute winner.
Started with a creamy turnip and greens soup – unexpectedly lovely. Then I had tofu on a bed of beetroot and celeriac mash, topped with a leek and cashew cream that was a showstopper, it came with buttered cabbage that could have converted a few sceptics.
Paul went for a vegetable and lentil puff pastry parcel with rice and salad – all very satisfying and left full and satisfied.
Dessert was a lemon posset and a chickpea & almond tart – ridiculously moist and packed with flavour. We shared.
We may have also left with two slices of chocolate banana bread “for Ron” (later-on)
Final stop: our campsite for the next five days. Right across from the beach – you can actually see the sea from the swimming pool. We’re also within easy reach of Porto, so the plan is to explore the old town, do some proper wandering, and maybe (definitely) squeeze in a few port tastings.
Made dinner in the van tonight and the aim was to catch the sunset afterwards but on the way down to the beach someone needed a wee and then we missed it! (It was me, I needed a wee hahaha!) There’s always tomorrow.
