Meadow
My first slightly less full on work day in a week or so, so I did manage to get out to the park for a decent time over my lunch break.
For the first time this year there was a decent quantity and variety of butterflies in the wildlife meadow area, particularly the whites, which must have just had a fresh brood emerge. This Large White was nectaring near the edge of the meadow. I also saw Small White, plenty of Ringlet and Meadow Brown, a couple of Speckled Wood and single Comma and Red Admiral. There was also one large dragonfly hawking the meadow, but I couldn’t get a close look at it. I chatted a bit with someone who also appreciates the meadow while walking their small, ancient dog. He said in the evening, the area is full of bats, another good sign that the meadow is doing its job in supporting the insect population.
