Snow falling on........

Pūteketeke.  Or if you're not familar with their Maori name, Australasian Crested Grebe.


I didn't feel cold this morning as the heater had been running all night but I was told that it was indeed rather cold outside.  Turns out the 'high' here was just 1 degree C today!  So from the comfort of my cozy van, I sat and watched the weather developing this morning.  First, a little increase in the cloud.......a little later, signs of some misty, fogginess developing.......later still, some moisture droplets on the window.....later again, 'heavier' moisture that looked kind of sleety then finally........real, large flakes of snow!!  After watching it begin to settle I made the call to head to the campground so I could plug in and enjoy full power coziness with no worries about how much battery power I had left.  But before I left I just had to capture some snowy ducks - Mr Puteketeke just happened to appear at exactly the right time.  Check  out the cute wee scaup in extras, particularly the front one with a huge snowflake in his eye.  These wee things are tough.
