A Meandering Life...

Market Cross, Northallerton

It has been a while since my last AvgCamPro image so here is one of my favourite subjects for it when I'm in town.

The market in Northallerton dates back to 1127 when it was near the parish church at the north end of the High Street. It was overlooked by a cross, I'm not too sure if it was this one. It was to remind stall holders to be honest to their customers.

The cross has slowly been moved south along the High Street as the area has been redeveloped. At one point it ended up in local historian's garden for 40 years but in 1913 it was erected outside the Town Hall you can see in the background.

The latest move was to its current position away from the Town Hall but still in the centre of the market, this happened in 1987.

Today I continued my project in the Men's Shed. Things are progressing nicely but some technical issues need addressing. I have a team working with me on a number of these. It is frustrating I only have a couple of days each week to work on it.
