Quod oculus meus videt

On the Prowl

I noticed Fleur this morning sitting on the far side of the patio sunbathing in the morning light. We're watching her carefully at the moment as there are regular indicators of her failing eyesight. More often than not she needs to hear our voices to locate and walk towards us. She does seem to have a remarkable appreciation of where the furniture and doorways. etc are, so we do think she has some peripheral vision. One of the fun things we've always liked doing with her is play fight through the balustrades on the landing. She still likes to do this, though she needs to be touched on her paws or ears to react, rather than being just a bit too good at seeing hand movements.

As I was taking her photograph, she started to pace towards the door. It's hard to believe from the photo that she has any difficulty seeing, so intent is her stare.

I had an early swim and then was back up to the GP's surgery to discuss some blood screening results. I do wonder why the appointment, which was made at the G.P.'s request, took place. The doctor I saw was pleasant and explained the readings that were slightly outside normal range, but was not overly concerned and I got the impression she would not have called me in for a consultation based on the results. At least it is building up plenty of baseline data should things change in the future.
