Morellos

I heard a commotion this morning at 6.38am. I was sure it must have been later. When I got up to look, I saw a neighbours skip being replaced. The guy was throwing things in that had fallen out as he lifted it. He was making a right racket.

There was another commotion as I looked out into the garden whilst making a cuppa. A wood pigeon was flapping furiously to maintain a hover as he tried to steal berries of my very young amalanchier tree. I went out to stop him damaging it and realised that he would very quickly notice the now ripe Morello Cherries on my tree. This is the first year it has fruited.

I picked the Cherries, then explored what to do with them. They are so rich, dark, and jewel like, but sour. I made a light syrup and preserved them for cocktails, or cakes, or ice cream......one little jar of delight.

Once himself finishes the cupboard he is painting, Im planning a preserves and fermentation shelf. A bit like Nigellas liquorice box!
