When a tiny 10 spot ladybird landed on me I quickly managed to get a photo of its long wings before it flew away. The second image reveals its ten spots but regrettably it is not a good photo.
When it is time to take off, it deploys its flying apparatus from beneath its colourful shell-like top wings, called the elytra, in only a tenth of a second and when it lands, it folds it back in just two.
This video is interesting.
