Welcome on Board
Hi there from Blip Central. As ever we've quietly been going about the business of running Blipfoto behind the scenes. There hasn't been anything of note to report since we last posted, until now.
We have a tremendous team of volunteers who help us with the day to day task of running the site, but we've always realised that we need to strengthen the board and looking to the future, there will be a need to bring in new people to run the site. To that end we want to introduce our first addition to the board, since we took over the site in 2016.
DavidD, will be no stranger to some members, and we are really pleased that he has accepted the offer to join the board. We've asked him to put a few words together to introduce himself to the wider membership, so........
"Hello, I’m David and I’ve been blipping since 2011. I don’t really remember why I started, but blipping daily has been a very positive thing for me. I love having a record of our lives and whilst finding a decent shot everyday can be a challenge, I’m pleased I’ve managed it without a break for the last 5465 days (and counting).
I’m a company director and shareholder of a design and web agency and have over 35 years of board level experience. My initial career was IT systems development, management and support and I have been involved with several very large, mission critical, high availability systems. This means I am very aware of the technical challenges that blip faces and although I won’t be involved in the day to day technical aspects of the site, I intend to work with Annie and the rest of the board to develop a wider technical team to spread the support the load and develop new features and functionality.
My goals with Blip are to help the current board define the future, how we gain subscribers, how the features and functionality of the site can grow, and possibly the most important: how can we get people to step up and help? The current team have been running Blip well for a long time, there needs to be succession in place to let them step back. There are a lot of talented and capable people on blip, we need to work out how to get them (you) involved. If we can’t put a structure in place to support blip into the future then invariably it will die, and none of us want that.
As well as business and Blip, I play guitar in a band, do a bit of cycling and help run a small festival to raise money for Meningitis Now. I’m married (to blipper UkuleleHayley) and have two grown up children (note, H does a much better daily write up than me!).
I’ve loved photography for a long time, having a close friend who is a very good professional photographer helped me understand the mechanics of cameras and how to use light. In the film days I had a darkroom and exposed my own prints which I always enjoyed more than taking the photo, this has translated into lightroom and post processing. Whilst I’ve never had a photography style, (I’ve done most types) I am drawn to portrait or street photography."
Thanks for the introduction, David.
While we're on the subject we are still keen to hear from anyone who is willing to help with the running of the site. We currently have places for a community co-ordinator, work that has previously been expertly done by Michele, Bex and Richard (with able assistance from volunteers).
