Everyday I Write The Book

By Eyecatching

A fine bromance

They spent hours today curled up on this chair together. Surprising really, it was hot. You’d think they would want their own space.

I did a few domestics but was rather sluggish today. Did have a rather lovely date night with TSM in our local bar.

I am reading Colm Toibin’s fictional account of Henry James’ later life (The Master) which is excellent but so intense and full of ghastly people that you feel you should wear protective clothing whilst reading it. This is one of the things I love about reading. I am not a particularly intense person - I would describe myself as emotionally guarded but often silly - and I find it fascinating when confronted with characters for whom an interpersonal pin dropping is a seismic event.

The thing about Henry James is he was the arch exponent of all the bad habits that Anthony Burgess attributed to writers, namely taking other people’s stories and stealing them, recycling them, and dramatising them. He was also obsessed with his great rival Oscar Wilde..

My last book was also very intense so I think I might need something trashy next.

Trivial fact: Oscar Wilde’s great great grandson is 46 years old and a software developer. He has a degree from Oxford and stayed in his ancestor’s room whilst he was there.

Bit of a drive tomorrow. Birthday party down in Sussex.
