On Independence Day
Some years ago, as a member of the League of Women Voters, I was privileged to do voter registration at the grand Independence Day naturalization ceremony at Seattle Center. It was a beautiful sight - more than a hundred new citizens, many in colorful costumes of their native land, proud and happy to be Americans. Afterward quite a few of them postponed their celebrations to register to vote as their first act as citizens. I was so happy to be part of it all. I wonder if we will ever see that again. It is so dangerous to be an immigrant in this country now.
Doug came by this afternoon and installed the new AC unit in the bedroom window. Now I will have relief from the heat on those beastly hot summer nights that are yet to come.
This lovely white lace-cap hydrangea grows alongside the garage opening in my building.
