A Magical Morning at Mackinac Point

I love going down to the Straits of Mackinac in the morning. The other tourists are either asleep or out having breakfast, so the park is lightly populated with walkers, runners, and photographers.

The sun is a-rising, the wind is not blowing, and the sea gulls are also greeting the day.

After I took a couple of hundred pictures, we pulled out of Mackinaw City at 9 a.m. and took the long way home, down U.S. 23 along Lake Huron, one of the 5 great lakes.

It was going real smoothly until we ran into a 4th of July parade in Alpena, Michigan, that thousands of people were watching. It was quite a spectacle, but we didn't feel like watching, and it took us 25-30 minutes to maneuver around.

Pulled into our driveway at 5:30, and made a decision to not go to our city's fireworks. I think it's a sign of old age, although I do think we will go to a private fireworks show tomorrow next door to my son's house. We shall see.
