Honoraries

Two of the four honorary graduates at today's dinner, one with his sponsor / nominator / laureator, a colleague who is retiring at the end of this academic year. The other one clearly Crime Royalty, which makes it two days of "royalty" for me.

Sadly, the format of the drinks and dinner meant that I didn't get a chance to chat with Val McDermid, but she and her partner looked as if they were enjoying themselves. The dinner was quite genial, with no nonsense round the table stuff. A different host, with better comic timing. As I said to colleagues, probably the only current member of SLT with good comic timing....

Getting into and out of the Futures Institute when the front door seemed out of commission, and there wasn't any servitorial cover was quite the task. I broke in via Canopy Cafe eventually, with the help of a staff member whose card opened a key door....

I got back home about 10pm, and had a solitary glass of cold white wine, to celebrate getting to the end of an exhausting working week, although busy days are set to continue for a little while. Meanwhile, in the north, Mr A was excelling himself catering for four members of my family and our dear friends A and N.
