Day 186/25. Green-Fanged Tube Web Spider.
I've never managed to get a picture of one of these before, although I have seen their nests. Unfortunately it has its back towards the entrance so its fangs are not visible.
These are significantly larger than most other spider species found in the UK, with female body length sometimes exceeding 20 millimetres. Indeed, it is one of our largest spiders, though they have a smaller leg span than spiders of a comparable body size.
The Tube Webbed Spider spends most of its life in a silk-lined tube, usually located above ground level, in a suitable hole or crevice.Indeed this one I found enjoying lunch of a hoverfly in a blackberry bush. In a nature reserve today on the Selsey peninsular on the south coast of the UK.
